Invisible Chess Moves | Stop Overlooking Simple Wins | Yochanan Afek & Emmanuel Neiman
This book focuses on the concept of "invisible" chess moves—those that players, even strong ones, often overlook. The authors explore why certain straightforward moves are missed, examining the psychological, positional, and geometric factors that can cloud a player's thinking during a game.
Invisible Chess Moves has received praise for its originality and effectiveness in addressing a relatively underexplored area of chess tactics. It won the ChessCafe Book of the Year Award in 2011.
- The book is designed for players rated between 1400 and 2100, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced players. It is also ideal for club-level players seeking to sharpen their tactical awareness and break through habitual thought patterns to find winning moves more consistently
- Gain insights into your ‘blind spots’ in chess, which are moves that may be obvious but often go unnoticed during play
- Understand the mental barriers that are preventing you from recognising simple winning moves
- Each chapter contains practical examples from actual games, including a special section dedicated to world championship matches, highlighting the intense pressure that can lead to oversights
A reader’s reviews:
I’m a huge fan of tactics! While chess enthusiasts enjoy different parts of the game—openings, middle games, endgames, or positional play—I find the true beauty of chess in its tactical intricacies and unexpected combinations. It's no wonder this book earned ChessCafe’s "Book of the Year" award, thanks to the impressive and aesthetically pleasing tactics showcased by the authors.
Despite owning many tactical books already, the puzzles in this one are truly special. As a top 95% user on Chesstempo.com, with thousands of puzzles solved, I find this book a joy to work through.
I often spend up to 30 minutes on a single problem, setting up the examples on the board to fully appreciate the hidden tactical ideas. The authors deserve high praise for their efforts in finding such unique and refreshing chess puzzles! - L Donald
