Reader’s reviews:

This book is a fantastic resource for both novice and intermediate chess players. The author effectively teaches endgame principles using real-life game scenarios and concise explanations. For instance, it covers critical strategies, like handling a situation where you have a bishop and a pawn against a lone king – Charries.

So far, this is the best book I’ve encountered for learning chess endgames. As a beginner, it has greatly helped me improve my game. If you're also looking to enhance your understanding of strategy, tactics, and other areas of chess, the author's other works are equally worth exploring! – PL.

This book isn't meant to serve as a comprehensive endgame manual, even for beginners. For example, you could go through Pandolfini's Endgame Course entirely and still find value in this book.

It’s more about enjoyment. Seirawan clearly explains endgame ideas, often adding engaging anecdotes, tension, and humour. He covers some basics in detail, like the King+Bishop+Knight vs. King scenario, which is rare in actual games.

The book also includes master-level endings for practical insights, and his discussion on rook endings (commonly seen in games) is beneficial. The book concludes with an intriguing chapter on the difference between Grandmaster-level play and computer-generated perfect moves.

It’s another captivating addition to the Winning Chess series, recommended for players around the 1300 rating level, even with little endgame experience – GoodrickP.
