The American Staunton set first became popular in 1851 when English chess master, Howard Staunton, promoted a similar set at the first international chess tournament. Now, as part of our wooden collection, you get to own your very own.
Those wooden chess pieces are a great addition to any chess collection. The set is hand-carved from Acacia and Boxwood and fitted with green felt bases for durability. Perfect for tournament or home play. Extra queens are included in this set - one of each colour.

Handmade in South Africa, this wooden chess board is skillfully constructed using a blend of brown Kiaat and European Beech wood, each chosen for its distinctive qualities.
Brown Kiaat wood, celebrated for its remarkable durability and unwavering stability, offers a chess board with a robust foundation. Notably, brown Kiaat wood showcases fascinating grain patterns that can range from straight to wavy or even interlocking, ensuring that each chess board is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The European Beech wood adds a beautiful contrast and a touch of elegance with its pale cream to light brown colors.
