About the Author

Mark Dvoretsky (1947–2016) was one of the most legendary chess instructors in history. Although a strong International Master himself, his true legacy lies in training elite players—most notably GM Artur Yusupov, who became one of the world’s top players, as well as Garry Kasparov, Viswanathan Anand, and Veselin Topalov. His systematic and deeply analytical teaching approach produced exceptional results, and Yusupov described the Endgame Manual as “one of the secrets of the Russian chess school.”

As an author, Dvoretsky produced some of the most respected works in chess literature. First published in 2003, Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual was immediately recognised as a modern classic and is widely considered the single best endgame book ever written. His works are known for their depth and rigor, rewarding dedicated readers with profound chess understanding.
