This is the first truly modern one-volume endgame encyclopaedia. Two German endgame experts have produced a masterly encyclopaedia that covers all major endgames.
It makes full use of endgame tablebases and analytical engines that access them, whereas previous authors could only make educated guesses. Consequently, Müller and Lamprecht have frequently been able to articulate the ultimate truth or come significantly closer to it.

  • This book is typically for intermediate to advanced players (around 1600 Elo and above)
  • Fundamental Chess Endings is a modern, comprehensive endgame encyclopedia that makes full use of endgame tablebases for precise analysis
  • It focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects of endgame play, offering detailed analysis, rules of thumb, and key principles
  • The book is highly regarded as an essential reference for endgame study and was notably studied by Magnus Carlsen during his youth

Reader’s review:

This is one of the most comprehensive endgame books available. While it may be overwhelming to read cover to cover due to the depth of some positions, it contains abundant valuable material. It's an essential resource for anyone looking to improve their understanding of endgames and sharpen their calculation skills - G van Reenen

This book contains in-depth theoretical and practical endgame material that requires a solid understanding of chess fundamentals. While intermediate players can benefit, the book is especially valuable for advanced players aiming to sharpen their endgame calculation and technique - G Bolt
