In ‘The World’s Great Chess Games’, GM Reuben Fine ranked Alekhine amongst the top three chess players of all time, along with Lasker and Fischer. Many of Alekhine’s games are regarded as being the most exciting, interesting, beautiful and complex ever played.

This new 21st-century edition of My Best Games of Chess, presented in modern algebraic notation, has combined both books into a single volume, added more than 3 dozen archival photographs, cross-tables, Alekhine's complete match and tournament records, a foreword by Russian grandmaster Igor Zaitsev, and many more diagrams.

A comprehensive computer-assisted analytical supplement has also been prepared and is available for download at no extra charge, so that, if you wish, you may compare Alekhine's impressive notes with the preferences of the silicon monster.

You will marvel at how Alekhine's games and thinking remain remarkably relevant to the modern game - and you will not fail to be impressed by the genuine genius that is Alekhine.

Readers’ Reviews:

Bobby Fischer credited Alekhine's games as a significant influence on his own development as a player. This collection gives readers direct access to Alekhine's thinking — his reasoning, his strategy, and his decision-making across all phases of the game. Presented in modern algebraic notation, with a free downloadable computer-assisted supplement for those who want a more objective view of the lines played, this is an essential study resource for any player serious about reaching the highest levels – S. Creal

My coach encouraged me to study Alekhine's games and work through every variation he annotated. What a revelation. No wonder players like Tal, Fischer, and Kasparov made his games essential study material – Y. Brewit

A wonderful upgrade to a chess classic. Algebraic notation and diagrams from Alekhine's point of view make the games easy to follow, while player photos add a personal touch. Best of all, no modern engine analysis cluttering the pages. A must-read – I. Redell

About the Author:

Alexander Alekhine (1892–1946) was one of the most brilliant and attacking chess players the world has ever seen. Born in Moscow, he developed a passionate love for chess from a young age and quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the dominant forces in international chess during the early twentieth century.

In 1927, he defeated the seemingly unbeatable José Raúl Capablanca to claim the World Chess Championship title — a victory widely regarded as one of the greatest upsets in chess history.

Alekhine was renowned for his deeply creative, combinational style of play, weaving complex tactical webs that left opponents struggling to find a foothold. He was also a prolific writer and annotator, producing several celebrated collections of his own games that remain essential reading for chess students and enthusiasts to this day.

He held the World Championship title for most of the period between 1927 and his death in 1946, making him one of the longest-reigning champions of his era. He remains the only World Champion never to have lost his title in a match.
