The Woodpecker Method 2: Positional Play | Axel Smith
The Woodpecker Method 2: Positional Play by GM Axel Smith offers a powerful sequel to the original Woodpecker Method, shifting the focus from tactics into the realm of positional understanding. Through systematic repetition and pattern recognition, this book helps serious chess players internalise strategic ideas, so they become intuitive.
- Woodpecker Method 2 is best suited for players with a rating of ELO 1600+ who want to sharpen their strategic intuition; however, higher-level players can still gain insight into it.
- Build deeper positional judgement by drilling 1,000 carefully selected exercises through repeated cycles.
- Cut your solving time with each pass - and watch your decision-making speed and accuracy improve.
- Exercises have been rigorously vetted with engines and tested by strong grandmasters (including Nodirbek Abdusattorov).
- By embedding positional patterns into your subconscious, you begin to “feel” the right plans rather than calculating each detail from scratch.
- Ideal for players who already have a grasp of tactical motifs and now wish to solidify their strategic play.
Reader’s Reviews:
Any student who takes the time and puts in the required effort will greatly benefit from studying the material in this book. Carsten Hansen (American Chess Magazine)
Ideal for players rated 1400-2200. Lower-rated players may find it challenging but “rewarding if approached with patience”. Nikhil Dixit
