Reader’s reviews:
Jan Timman's writing takes you on a journey to the various places and people that shaped his chess career. Following his games during the 80s and 90s, when he was a world-class player and challenged Karpov for the World Championship, I can say this book brings those moments to life. It reads like an intriguing adventure or mystery novel, enhanced by Timman's insightful analysis of the selected games. It's not just informative but an enjoyable read as well! – Brown.
In Timman's Titans, Jan Timman portrays ten World Chess Champions, ranging from Alekhine to Kasparov. Each chapter introduces a particular champion, followed by a selection of their games, and concludes with Timman’s personal encounters with them.
The book is engaging and packed with intriguing insights, including surprising revelations and personal reflections, giving it a unique perspective. Timman, who knew many of these champions as friends and competitors, offers light yet sharp annotations.
Though his selection of games may seem unconventional, such as emphasizing Karpov’s mistakes or highlighting Smyslov’s attacks, this only adds to the book's charm. It’s a must-read for anyone fascinated by chess history, but be warned—you won’t want to put it down! - L.Kid.
