Reader’s Reviews:
I now understand why this book is so highly regarded. John Watson breaks everything down clearly and simply, making it easy to grasp. I've been searching for a solid guide on French Defence, and I believe I've finally found the one that will help deepen my understanding of this opening.
This book is an excellent starting point if you're a French Defence player or looking to learn it. While I haven't read the previous three editions, I’m confident they’re as good as this one. I highly recommend it - D Stoll
This is an excellent book. The notion that it's only suitable for intermediate to advanced players is misleading. With determination and a basic understanding of chess, anyone can benefit from it. Watson explains each concept clearly and succinctly without overwhelming the reader with excessive analysis. Despite the extensive variations covered, the book remains highly readable and approachable – LDN
